Seven Best Attractions At Shanghai Disneyland

Shanghai Disneyland is the newest and the second biggest Disney Park in the world after Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Since its opening in 2016, this park has been visited by many visitors around the world. My husband and me went there in November 2018. It was autumn in Shanghai and the weather was cold. The entrance queue was not too long. It only took us 15 minutes to enter the gate and buy the entrance ticket directly at the counter. There are two kinds of ticket, 1-Day and 2-Day ticket and the prices are different for regular and peak season. November is considered as a regular season and our 1-Day ticket price was RMB 399 per person.

The never ending Disney music that we loved and knew so well was heard as we entered Shanghai Disneyland. The first part we saw was Mickey Avenue, a whimsical hometown filled with shops and restaurants. The buildings were inspired by the colourful personalities of Mickey Mouse and friends. A nice start to begin the adventure in the land of dream and happiness. As we continued walking, we saw the Enchanted Storybook castle, the largest Disney castle in the world, in the middle of the Garden of Imagination. The garden was very spacious and it served as the hub of the park.

Shanghai Disneyland consists of Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Adventure Isle, Tomorrow Land and Toy Story Land. It might take us two full days to explore all the attractions and shows in this park. Since we only had one day, we had to use our time wisely.

Here are some tips to optimise our time in Shanghai Disneyland:

1. Download the Shanghai Disney Resort Apps

The benefit of this app:

1.1 Online ticket purchase from the app in advance so there's no need to queue to buy onsite ticket. It will save a lot of time especially if we are visiting during peak season.

1.2 Disney Fastpass is available in Shanghai Disney Resort Apps for no extra charge (subject to the availability). We just need to sign in, select "Get Fastpass" and scan the QR code of our ticket. Do take note that only some attractions with selected time has Fastpass. During our visit, Pirates of the Caribbean didn't have Fastpass, but another popular attraction, Soaring Over the Horizon had Fastpass. We also can get Fastpass from the Guest Services booth inside the park.

1.3 Apart from the map, the app also shows the waiting time of Shanghai Disneyland's favourite attractions. It's very useful for us to set our priority, which attraction we will visit first.

2. Make priority

We may need two days to try all attractions and shows at Disneyland, especially during the peak season. If we only have one day, we need to choose the rides that are most attractive and suitable for us.

Based on our experience, these are the seven best attractions of Shanghai Disneyland:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure

This is the best attraction in Shanghai Disneyland and we were very lucky that we only needed to queue for 15 minutes to try the ride. Usually the queue is very long! The first two minutes seemed like an ordinary ride where we were greeted by Jack Sparrow's mannequin, but as we continued cruising, suddenly we were in the midst of the ocean, moving up and down as waves went crazy. We saw the giant octopus, pirates and entered a sinking ship. The 4D visual effect was stunning. Even though we didn't understand Mandarin, we could still enjoy this ride so much.

2. Soaring Over the Horizon

We queued more than 30 minutes for this ride, mostly because there were a big group of primary school students right in front of us, but it was worth it! The giant screen, combined with the swinging gliders, gave us the sense of soaring in the sky and we flew through the panoramic view of top worldwide destinations such as the Great Wall in China, the Pyramid in Egypt, Taj Mahal in India, Eiffel Tower in Paris, Niagara Falls and Antartica's snowy mountains. It felt fantastic!

3. Camp Discovery Challenge Trails

This activity gave us the real sense of 'adventure'. We became the 'main actor' as we crossed dangerous terrains with the aid of the harness. It was fun but a bit scary as well. Luckily the attraction came with multiple trails with different difficulty levels so if we weren't feeling brave enough, we could choose the easy level.

4. Peter Pan's Flight

We boarded the pirate ship and flew above London! Entering Wendy's bedroom and seeing other scenes from Peter Pan movie was quite interesting. The language barrier was not an issue because we could understand from the visual and we were familiar with the movie.

5. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

It was a themed rollercoaster that brought us to the tunnel and saw the colourful blinking diamonds and Dwarfs. The rollercoaster wasn't as challenging as Tron. It didn't turned us upside down, but it was enough to make my husband felt dizzy afterwards.

6. Voyage to the Crystal Grotto

A slow moving boat that brought us to see some popular Disney characters such as Ariel, Mulan, Rapunzel, Aladin, while listening to their songs. It’s a good entertainment especially for young kids.

7. Alice in Wonderland Maze

As we were finding our way out from the maze, we saw many decorations, statues and ornaments that reminded us of the classic Disney movie, Alice in Wonderland. At the center of the garden was a huge head of the Red Queen and in the surrounding area were heart card soldier and the tea party table. The details of the ornaments were excellent, a perfect area for your instagrammable moments!

Why didn't I put Tron in the list?  The only reason why Tron Lightcycle Power Run was off this list was simply because we didn't try it. It was too scary for us. Riders sit on a 'motorcycle', get strapped and race on the track in a high speed. However, if you like a challenging rollercoaster, you should try this. It's the main attraction in Tomorrowland.

The other attractions that we missed was Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack's Stunt Spectacular, a stage show in Mandarin, in which Captain Jack Sparrow seeks revenge after learning that an actor is portraying him on stage. We didn't' watch it because we couldn't understand Mandarin. We also did not experience another popular ride, Roaring Rapid, because it was under maintenance.

And the last one that we missed is Ignite the Dream Fireworks. It was still raining a bit at 6pm and my husband already wanted to go home. We still had to wait for another 2 hours for the fireworks, but we weren't sure if the fireworks would still be showing so finally we went home.

Overall experience in Shanghai Disneyland was good. It isn’t as magical as Tokyo Disneyland but it’s a decent and worldwide class themed park with attractive rides and shows. Language barrier might be an issue for the shows but not for the rides. During our visit, people queued properly, nobody cut queue. In term of the cleanliness it was also not bad, especially the toilets. My husband said the Shanghai Disneyland’s toilet is the cleanliest toilet in China and I agree with him.

Tujuh Atraksi Terbaik di Shanghai Disneyland

Shanghai Disneyland adalah taman bermain terbaru dan kedua terbesar di dunia sesudah Walt Disney World Resort di Florida. Sejak diresmikan pada tahun 2016, Shanghai Disneyland telah dikunjungi oleh banyak pengunjung di seluruh dunia. Saya mengunjungi taman ini bersama suami di bulan November 2018, di saat musim gugur dan udara mulai dingin. Sewaktu kami ke sana, antrian menuju pintu masuk tidak terlalu panjang. Kami hanya memerlukan waktu 15 menit untuk melalui pintu masuk dan kemudian membeli tiket di loket. Ada dua jenis tiket yang dijual, Tiket 1 Hari dan Tiket 2 Hari. Harganya berbeda-beda tergantung musimnya, apakah musim biasa atau liburan. Bulan November termasuk dalam kategori musim biasa, jadi harga tiket kita 399 yuan per orang.

Sambil menikmati lagu Disney yang kami suka dan kenal baik, kamu memasuki Shanghai Disneyland. Bagian pertama yang kami lihat adalah Mickey Avenue, pemukiman unik yang dipenuhi oleh toko-toko dan restoran dengan desain Mickey Mouse dan teman-temannya. Awal yang baik untuk mengawali petualangan kita di tanah impian dan kebahagiaan. Setelah melanjutkan perjalanan, kami melihat the Enchanted Story Book Castle, Istana Disney terbesar di dunia, di tengah-tengah Garden of Imagination (Taman Imajinasi). Taman ini sangat luas dan berfungsi sebagai penghubung antar bagian.

Shanghai Disneyland terdiri dari Fantasyland, Treasure Cove, Adventure Isle, Tomorrow Land dan Toy Story Land. Mungkin perlu waktu dua hari untuk mencoba semua atraksi dan pertunjukan di sini, namun karena kita hanya memiliki satu hari, kita harus memanfaatkan waktu dengan baik. 

Berikut ini adalah beberapa saran untuk berhemat waktu di Shanghai Disneyland:

1. Unduh aplikasi Shanghai Disney Resort

Manfaat dari aplikasi ini adalah:

1.1 Anda bisa membeli tiket lewat aplikasi ini sebelum hari kunjungan sehingga anda tidak membuang waktu untuk antri membeli karcis di loket yang pasti panjang antriannya di musim liburan. 

1.2 Disney Fastpass juga tersedia di aplikasi Shanghai Disney Resort secara gratis, walaupun ini hanya berlaku selama persediaan masih ada. Kita cukup mendaftar dan masuk ke aplikasi, lalu memilih "Get Fastpass" dan pindai kode QR yang ada tiket. Perlu diketahui bahwa hanya beberapa atraksi tertentu yang memiliki fasilitas Fastpass pada waktu-waktu tertentu. Saat kita di sana, Pirates of the Caribbean tidak memiliki Fastpass, namun wahana populer lainnya, Soaring Over the Horizon, memiliki Fastpass. Oh ya, kita juga bisa mendapatkan Fastpass dari kantor Guest Services di dalam taman. 

1.3 Lewat aplikasi ini, kita juga bisa melihat peta dan waktu tunggu atraksi-atraksi yang ada. Ini sangat berguna bagi kita untuk menentukan wahana mana yang ingin kita coba terlebih dahulu. 

2. Membuat prioritas

Seperti yang saya singgung sebelumnya, kita mungkin membutuhkan waktu dua hari untuk mencoba semua atraksi dan pertunjukan yang ada, terutama pada saat musim liburan. Jika kita hanya memiliki satu hari, ada baiknya kita menentukan wahana yang cocok untuk kita.

Berdasarkan pengalaman kami, berikut ini adalah tujuh atraksi terbaik di Shanghai Disneyland:

1. Pirates of the Caribbean: Battle for the Sunken Treasure

Menurut saya, ini adalah wahana paling menarik di Shanghai Disneyland. Kami beruntung karena hanya membutuhkan waktu 15 menit untuk mengantri. Konon atraksi populer ini sangat panjang antriannya di musim liburan. Ketika pelayaran dimulai, kami disambut oleh patung Jack Sparrow. Setelah itu perahu yang kami tumpangi pun bagaikan terombang-ambing di tengah lautan. Gurita raksasa dan bajak laut lantas bermunculan. Setelah itu kami masuk ke dalam laut dan melihat kapal karam. Efek visual empat dimensinya sangat menakjubkan. Meski kami tidak mengerti bahasa Mandarin, kami tetap menikmati wahana ini. 

2. Soaring Over the Horizon

Kami mengantri 30 menit lamanya karena ada rombongan murid-murid sekolah di depan kami, tapi wahana ini memang layak antri! Layar raksasa dan tempat duduk yang menggelantung membuat kami merasa terbang seperti burung yang melewati pemandangan-pemandangan terkenal di dunia seperti Tembok Raksasa Cina, Piramida Mesir, Taj Mahal di India, Menara Eiffel di Perancis, Air Terjun Niagara dan gunung es di Antartika. Luar biasa!

3. Camp Discovery Challenge Trails

Atraksi yang satu ini adalah tempat eksplorasi dimana kita harus melewati tebing air terjun dan tempat-tempat berbahaya lainnya sambil bergelantungan di tali. Cukup seru dan menyeramkan, tapi untunglah setiap tantangan yang kita lewati memiliki tiga tingkat kesukaran yang berbeda. Kalau kita merasa tidak sanggup, kita bisa memilih level yang paling mudah. 

4. Peter Pan's Flight

Ini adalah wahana dimana kita menaiki kapal dan terbang di atas kota London. Kita memasuki kamar Wendy dan melihat berbagai adegan dari film Peter Pan. Bagi yang tahu cerita Peter Pan, bahasa seharusnya tidak menjadi kendala. 

5. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train

Rollercoaster bertema Tujuh Kurcaci ini membawa kita melewati terowongan tambang yang penuh dengan intan yang berkilau. Walau tidak berjungkir-balik seperti Tron, wahana ini membuat suami saya memejamkan mata dan pusing. Dia meminta waktu untuk duduk sejenak setelah usai, haha.

6. Voyage to the Crystal Grotto

Kapal yang bergerak pelan ini membawa kita melihat karakter-karakter Disney yang terkenal seperti Ariel, Mulan, Rapunzel dan Aladin. Setiap persinggahan juga menampilkan lagu khas mereka. Ini adalah wahana yang cukup menghiburkan dan cocok bagi anak-anak. 

7. Alice in Wonderland Maze

Taman yang berkelok-kelok ini membawa kita melihat berbagai karakter dari film klasik Disney, Alice in Wonderland. Di tengah taman ada patung Red Queen yang besar kepalanya. Di sekitarnya ada patung-patung prajurit kartu dan meja tempat pesta teh. Detil dari hiasan taman dan patung ini sangat bagus. Keren banget untuk dijadikan latar belakang foto. Dengan kata lain, "very Instagrammable."

Nah, kenapa saya tidak memasukkan Tron ke dalam daftar kunjungan? Satu-satunya alasan kenapa Tron Lightcycle Power Run tidak masuk daftar di atas adalah karena kita tidak mencobanya. Terlalu... seram. Para pengendara duduk di atas motor dan balapan di jalur dengan kecepatan tinggi! Akan tetapi jika anda adalah penggemar rollercoaster, anda harus mencobanya. Ini adalah atraksi utama di Tomorrowland.

Kami juga tidak menonton pertunjukan Eye of the Storm: Captain Jack's Stunt Spectacular yang bercerita tentang Captain Jack Sparrow yang ingin membalas dendam setelah mengetahui bahwa ada aktor yang berperan sebagai dirinya di atas pentas. Kami tidak menonton karena pertunjukan tersebut menggunakan bahasa Mandarin. Kami juga tidak sempat mencoba Roaring Rapid yang populer karena wahana tersebut sedang diservis pada saat itu.

Atraksi terakhir yang kami lewatkan adalah Ignite the Dream Fireworks. Hujan turun hampir sepanjang hari hingga menjelang jam enam malam. Pertunjukan tersebut harusnya digelar jam delapan malam, namun karena tidak yakin bahwa atraksi kembang api masih akan tetap berlangsung dalam cuaca seperti itu, suami saya akhirnya memutuskan untuk pulang. 

Secara keseluruhan, pengalaman di Shanghai Disneyland sangat berkesan. Walau tidak terlalu menakjubkan seperti Tokyo Disneyland, taman yang berada di Shanghai ini tetap berkelas dunia dan sangat layak dikunjungi. Bahasa mungkin menjadi masalah bagi mereka yang tidak mengerti Mandarin, namun atraksinya tetap bisa dinikmati. Dari segi kebersihan, kualitasnya patut diacungi jempol. Suami saya berkata bahwa toilet di Shanghai Disneyland adalah toilet paling bersih di Cina dan saya setuju dengan pendapatnya.
